Abstract
The level of awareness with regards to physical education as a subject at the junior secondary schools level most especially in Rivers State leaves more to be desired as school authorities, teachers and government lay more emphasis on other subjects they believe would have a greater impact on the students future dreams and aspiration than Physical education which has the potential of developing a sound mind in a sound body as well as has the capacity to improve and sustain an individuals life span and help prepare the students for position of leadership which they would have learnt in the course of participating in physical activities and sport in school by being a gallant loser and magnanimous victor. Therefore, this study concludes that to create an impactful level of awareness of physical education in junior secondary schools, the government must show greater interest by doing the needful while teachers with interest in the subject should be employed. Therefore, based on the foregoing, it was suggested that achieving a high level of awareness of physical education in junior secondary schools, provision of adequate equipment and facilities should not be compromised amongst others.
