Abstract

This study determined the Status of office electronic records Management in Universities in Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of the study, five research questions were asked and five corresponding null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A Comprehensive related literature was reviewed not only to serve as a guide to the research but also to give insight into what has already been done by other researchers in the related areas of the study. The study adopted a survey research design. The population consisted of five hundred and twenty two (522) administrative staff in the study area, who was all involved in the study due to the manageable size of the population. A 58-item questionnaire titled “Status of office electronic records Management in Universities in Cross River State, Nigeria was used for data collection. The data collected were analysed using the Cronbach Alpha statistical technique which yielded an overall reliability coefficient of 0.82. The data collected were analysed using mean (X) and standard deviation (SD) to answer the research questions. Similarly, the null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using an independent t-test. The findings from data analysis showed that, Provisions of human and material resources for office electronic records management were made at high extent. While the test of hypotheses revealed that, there is no significant difference in responses of male and female administrative staff on the level of provision of material resources for keeping electronic records in universities in Cross River State. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that, the school management should provide steady power supply and adoption of global best practices for the management of electronic records in Nigeria universities.
