Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the strategies for improving green building practices in Anambra state with a view to access their effectiveness towards achieving sustainable construction. The study was conducted through a descriptive survey method where Ninety (90) well-structured questionnaires were distributed to professionals in Architecture, Building and Quantity Surveying. Documented data from available records like journals and books were also reviewed as secondary data source. The data obtained via analyzed using Weighted Average Mean method, the result revealed that there should be consistent training programs for both professionals and craftsmen, to equip them with the adequate knowledge to ensure green building constructions and practices in design and execution. These trainings helps everyone involved in a project to know their responsibility towards ensuring the project is carried out in sustainable manner from inception to completion. Beside this, professionals in the design team should adopt sustainable design to minimize disturbance and restore valuable green spaces. Government should promulgate active regulatory and control mechanisms to monitor, carry out site inspections and supervision of each organization’s sustainability to ensure green building concepts .Minimization of non-renewable resources use and local authorities checklist rank high as effective strategies, while preservation of natural water cycle, maximizing use of renewable resources, grants and energy audits rank low .
