Abstract
In the physical realm of our world, we have tangible sensory experiences of touch, feel, smell, push, speed, taste etc. Augmented reality uses the existing real-world environment and puts virtual information on top of it to enhance the experience. Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information. This paper discusses what AR is, how it works and its relevance to education at all levels viz: primary, secondary and tertiary. It is observed that the primary value of augmented reality is the manner in which components of the digital world blend into a person's perception of the real world. It is noted that interconnectivity is on the rise and thus a lot of young people use smartphones globally. Many of them owned these gadgets and use them to access social media, games and get connected with other users and databases. This grants them extra digital information with more complex blended information about the environment which augmented teaching and learning. Ability to connect with reality and digital content improved and opened more access for learners and their teachers to use it in various dimensions in all education levels. It was presented that AR maximizes students’ ability to spend their time learning their subjects while minimizing the time spent learning how to use the new tech. AR also blur the lines between textbook materials and educator; thereby making it possible and easy for students to generate and create digital content in classroom today
