This paper titled ‘harnessing Social Studies Curriculum as a catalyst for promoting gender equality and religious harmony in Nigeria’. Poverty and gender constitute major issue in Africa especially in Nigeria. Women have been subjected to social control and domination by men in most cultures within and around the African continent. This paper analyses the concept of Social Studies Curriculum, Gender equality and Religious harmony. The theoretical framework adopted for this paper is balanced development theory. The related studies were reviewed. The paper discussed Social Studies as a curriculum offering for promoting gender equality and religious harmony in Africa. Based on the position of the paper, it is recommended among others that conscious efforts should be made by Social studies teachers to inculcate in students the right types of knowledge and values that will enable them develop the spirit of tolerance and accommodation, particularly in gender, religious and ethnic issues.
