This study examined Challenges of Higher Education after Covid-19 in south East Nigeria: Implication for Societal Development. Two research questions guided the study; descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 268,340 students from 10 public universities in South-East Nigeria. The sample comprises of 1000 undergraduates in the universities. The sample was composed using the simple random sampling and purposive sampling technique. Data collected were analyzed using mean. Findings of the study showed that higher education system in Nigeria is faced with enormous challenges during post Covid-19 pandemic and those challenges had enormous effect on the University undergraduates and some of those challenges as found in the study includes: School closure, shortage of teaching staff, poor learning due to shortage of teaching staff, unequal access to education opportunities, poor school enrollment, poor academic achievement. It was also found that e-learning adoption has multiple challenges which include high cost of ICT gadgets, resistance to new technology, high cost of internet subscription, poverty, poor power supply, poor internet connectivity and lack of requisite ICT knowledge. The study recommends that government makes attempt to subsidize data subscription and e-learning gadgets for students and schools as a way of encouraging e-learning and its adoption in schools since it is one of the numerous ways that challenges the adoption and use of e-learning in higher institutions in Nigeria
