Morale is a critical determinant of soldiers’ effectiveness in military operations, reflecting their confidence, commitment, and psychological resilience in the face of adversity. Globally, high morale has been linked to operational success, while diminished morale undermines performance and mission outcomes. In high-stress occupations such as the military, factors like work stress and job satisfaction play pivotal roles in shaping soldiers’ morale. In Nigeria, soldiers deployed in the northeast theater of war face extreme operational challenges, and emerging evidence suggests that low morale is increasingly prevalent among these troops. This study examines the influence of work-related stress and job satisfaction on the morale of soldiers operating in conflict zones in northeast Nigeria. By understanding the interplay between occupational stressors and job satisfaction, the research highlights the importance of organizational support and psychological interventions in maintaining high morale. Findings from this study are expected to inform military leadership, policymakers, and support services in designing strategies to enhance soldiers’ well-being, operational readiness, and overall effectiveness during deployment.
