Abstract
This work investigates female civil servants exposure to facebook and its influence on body comparison among female civil servants in South East Nigeria. Three objectives of the study are to ascertain female civil servants’ perception of their body; to ascertain female civil servants’ level of exposure to images portraying thin body ideal on Facebook; and to find out whether female civil servants’ exposure to Facebook images portraying thin body leads to body comparison. The study used survey research design to study a sample of 322 female civil servants from Selected South East States. The study was anchored on the Social Comparison Theory, the study revealed that Female Civil Servants’ are well exposed to facebook images portraying thin body ideals, which leads to body comparison. Female civil servants liked what they looked like in pictures and were proud of their body occasionally. They were satisfied with their weight and were not upset with their looks, though they wished they looked better.
