The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 in 2020 has led to a global pandemic, posing significant challenges for public health systems worldwide. Concurrently, the annual seasonal influenza outbreak introduces an additional burden, creating a scenario in which two highly contagious respiratory diseases circulate simultaneously. Both SARS-CoV-2 and influenza share similar symptoms, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath, complicating clinical diagnosis without laboratory testing. The overlapping presence of these viruses increases the risk of healthcare system overload, potentially resulting in shortages of hospital beds, ventilators, and other critical resources. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and individuals with pre-existing health conditions, are at heightened risk of severe illness. Additionally, co-infection with both viruses may exacerbate disease severity. This situation underscores the urgent need for effective coping strategies, including robust public health planning, vaccination, preventive measures, and rapid diagnostic testing to mitigate the combined impact of SARS-CoV-2 and seasonal influenza.
