Water quality monitoring is very important because it helps to identify specific pollutants and deviation of water quality characteristics from acceptable or permissible limit. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of boreholes water in Otuegwe II, Oruma and Otuasega communities in Emeyal Clan in Ogbia, Bayelsa State. Three water samples were collected from each of the communities and analysed in the laboratory according to WHO guidelines. The results show that physicochemical parameters analysed were within permissible limit while heavy metals ie Fe, Mn, Cd, Cr, Cu and Pb analysis showed that many were above the permissible limits. HPI evaluations show that water samples from Otuegwe II have HPI of 162.79, 354.38 and 155.48 at points 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The HPI at points 1, 2 and 3 in Oruma are 478.48, 1001.88 and 617.10 respectively while the HPI at are points 1, 2 and 3 in Otuasega are, 341.16, 234.55 and 234.27 respectively. Therefore the results show that the HPI of all the water samples are above the critical value of 100 hence the water are safe for drinking due to heavy metal pollution.
