Abstract

The rapid technological and economic advancements of the 20th century significantly enhanced human welfare, improving health, communication, transportation, and material living standards. However, these gains have come at a profound ecological cost, triggering interconnected environmental crises that threaten the stability of Earth’s systems and the sustainability of human civilization. The degradation of ecosystems, loss of biodiversity, climate change, and pollution exemplify the multi-dimensional nature of the contemporary environmental crisis. This paper examines these interrelated challenges, emphasizing that the environmental crisis extends beyond ecological and scientific concerns to encompass social, economic, and political dimensions. By framing environmental issues within a multidisciplinary perspective, the study highlights the urgent need for integrated approaches to mitigate environmental degradation and promote sustainable development. Understanding the complex interplay between human activity and ecological systems is critical to devising strategies that ensure both planetary health and the continued well-being of future generations.
