This study seeks to investigate what determines the choice of cooking method, and identify the distribution channels of wood fuel in both urban and rural communities of Akoko Northeast local government of Ondo State, Nigeria. This descriptive research employs questionnaire to elicit data from 165 respondents. Data collected were analyzed using percentages and inferential statistics were used to test the hypotheses. All the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that majority of the respondents used wood fuel  because it is available and affordable compare to other cooking energy such as electricity, kerosene and gas. This result negates the formulated hypothesis which states that there is no significant relationship between marital status and reasons for the choice of energy utilised in Akoko Northeast, therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected.  In conclusion, the use of wood fuel cut across ages and educational status of the respondents and the reasons for this was anchored on factors such as the availability and affordability of wood fuel compare to other sources energy. It was therefore recommended that government should give priority and reduce the tariff on kerosene marketers, this will help make kerosene available in the filling stations and affordable to the masses. The Federal government should increase the income of poor households so as to be able to afford and access other renewable energy.
