Abstract

Vocabulary acquisition is a fundamental component of English language learning and is crucial for effective communication. As highlighted by Schmitt (2000), no grammatical or linguistic knowledge can function in discourse without the mediation of vocabulary. Similarly, Moghadam, Zainal, and Ghaderpour (2012) emphasize that vocabulary learning is central to both second and foreign language acquisition, playing a dominant role in learners’ overall language development. This study examines the importance of vocabulary knowledge in English learning, focusing on its impact on communication, reading, and writing skills. By analyzing contemporary pedagogical approaches to vocabulary teaching, the research explores strategies that can enhance learners’ vocabulary acquisition and retention. The findings underscore that effective vocabulary instruction is not only essential for language competence but also foundational for academic success and lifelong language use. This study provides practical implications for educators and curriculum designers seeking to optimize vocabulary teaching in English learning contexts
