This paper examined meeting the challenges of nation building in Nigeria through a viable and functional undergraduate distance learning education curriculum. The concept of nation building, viable and functional curriculum, and distance learning were discussed. Again, the types of distance learning as an educational practice was addressed, the mode of operation diagramatically represented, benefits of viable and functional curriculum were stated accordingly. Also, the steps for achieving sustained viable and functional distance learning curriculum were expatiated on. It was then recommended that distance learners should ensure they gain functional education through indepth study of the curriculum contents and find them useful for problem solving, students of distance learning who are in the same environment should form study groups to enhance their learning capacities, teachers who teach distance learners should do indepth research on how to enhance the learning of their students and apply findings, schools that run distance learning programmes should be equipped with varied equipment for enhanced outreach to students and society, policy enforcers should regularly call for the curriculum schools use for distance learning programmes to ensure it is in tune with the contemporary societal needs that can bring about nation building.
