Abstract
Patients’ satisfaction with nursing care has developed tremendous attractions in the sector of health care delivery services. This study is to assess patient satisfaction with nursing care services rendered in the selected hospitals in Benin City, Edo state. A descriptive cross sectional survey designed was adopted. A sample of 193 was selected from a total population of 310.6 in-patients of the various selected hospitals using a convenient sampling technique and a well-structured questionnaire as instrument for data collection. Reliability of the instrument was tested using split half reliability test with Cronbach Alpha value of 0.89 and 0.83 was gotten respectively. The result show that the respondents were all satisfied with all the variable of nursing care such as Reliability, responsiveness, assurance and Empathy with all having a mean score of above 2. Attitude of nurses (3.01±0.502), Clinical skills (3.35±0.478), Interpersonal relationship (3.15±0.499), Emotional support (3.08±0.497), Professional knowledge (3.35±0.478), Time spent with patients (3.15±0.499) among other were found to be factors influencing satisfaction. An F value of 4.336 and P value of 0.014 indicated that there is a difference in patients’ satisfaction with nursing care services rendered in the selected hospitals. However, nursing care services need improvement. It is recommended that a feedback system should be provided for patients’ to communicate their level of satisfaction on every visit to the management to foster the information provision skills and the skills of making patients’ feel satisfied of the nursing services at the various selected hospitals
