PEDAGOGICAL CONSTRAINTS IN THE USE OF MODERN INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIES IN BUSINESS EDUCATION IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN SOUTH-SOUTH GEO-POLITICAL ZONE, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate pedagogical constraints in the use of modern instructional technologies in business education in south-south geopolitical zone, Nigeria. The study answered two (2) research questions and two (2) null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted of 110 male and 122 female Business Educators. The entire population was studied. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire titled “Pedagogical Constraints in the Use of Modern Instructional Technologies in Business Education Questionnaire (PCUMITBEQ)” with 25 items. The instrument was validated by three experts, two in business education and one in science education.  The instrument was subjected to reliability test using Cronbach Alpha Reliability Statistical Tool. The result yielded an average reliability coefficient of 0.85. 232 copies of the instrument were printed but 125 copies were successfully administered and retrieved. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while independent T-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. The result of the analysis revealed that there are about thirteen administrators’ related constraints and twelve students’ related constraints. There was no significant difference in the mean rating of the respondents based on the universities ownership and location. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that Business Education administrators should employment of qualified technocrat for proper installation and maintenance of available technologies as well as ensures lecturers adequate supervision on the use of modern instructional technologies during lessons.
