Information is power; it moves people out of the bondage of life. It liberates peoples from pending evils that may devastate an individual life. Lack of adequate information, media campaign, environmental education and enlightenment on environmental issues, particularly flooding is the thrust of this work. The paucity of information to the public among other factors that are regarded as vectors of incessant flooding and environmental degradation informed this research. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the environmental reporting as a panacea for flood control and sustainable development in South West Nigeria. Hence, to achieve this, Content analysis method was employed for this study and designed as a quantitative one. Two national newspapers, namely The Punch and The Guardian were analysed using their contents relating to flooding between January and December, 2021. However, out of the 730 editions published within the period under investigation, 78 news articles on flooding in South West Nigeria were found. The Guardian newspaper published 42 (53.8%) while The Punch published 36 (46.2%). The data were analysed with SPSS IBM v23. The findings of the study showed that in terms of reporting flooding and other environmental challenges, the media played their educational roles as expected.  Although, it has been established that the media are playing their roles accordingly, but their reports hardly make the headline on front page. It is recommended that the media make calls for action conspicuous and loud to give them the power they need to reach the right quarters. This will put the people and government constantly on their toes and cause them to take more proactive actions on the challenges by controlling floods and ensure sustainability of development in the region
