Abstract
The study examined the effect of billboard advertising on consumer intent towards Unilever Nigeria Plc products in Edo and Delta States, Nigeria. The general objective of the study is to determine the effect of billboard advertising on consumer purchase intent towards Unilever Nigeria Plc products in Edo and Delta State, Nigeria. Specifically, objectives of the study include to: Ascertain whether the ability of a billboard to attract attention of consumers has effect on consumers purchase intent towards products of Unilever Nigeria Plc in Edo and Delta State Nigeria; Examine whether a billboard ability to command consumers interest has effect on consumers purchase intent towards product of Unilever Plc in Edo and delta States, Nigeria; Determine whether a billboard’s ability to stimulate desire has effect on consumer purchase intent towards products of Unilever Plc, in Edo and Delta States, Nigeria; Ascertain whether a billboard’s ability to stimulate action has effect on consumer purchase intent towards products of Unilever Plc, in Edo and Delta States, Nigeria. The study adopted a survey design and made extensive use of the questionnaire to gather data for analysis. The theoretical framework was anchored on the Hierarchy of Effects model. The population of the study was 300, which is also the sample size of the study. 300 copies of the questionnaire were administered to respondents of the study. However, 294 were returned, well completed and used for analysis. 6 copies of the questionnaire were returned not well completed and therefore, not used in the analysis. The Pearson Product Moment Chi-square was used to test the hypotheses of the study. The findings of the study showed that: The ability of billboard advertising to attract attention of consumers; command consumers’ interest; stimulate desire and stimulate action affects consumer purchase intent towards products of Unilever Nigeria Plc in Edo and Delta states. Based on the findings of the study recommendations were made
