Abstract

The paper examines social Studies as a tool for promoting instruction towards overcoming moral decadence among students in Nigeria. Moral, morality, moral education and Social Studies education were conceptualized. The impact of morality and the problems of immorality in Nigeria were also examined. The objectives of moral education were presented as having a continuum with the objectives of teaching Social Studies in Nigeria. It was recommended that Social Studies curriculum should be adequately repositioned to effectively promote moral instruction among schools students in order to overcome the prevalence of moral decadence in Nigerian schools. Moral instructions should be planned as part of the curriculum offerings of Social Studies in Nigeria and Moral instructions should be part of the morning devotion on school assembly
