Abstract
In the wake of the novel corona virus disease pandemic, many nations of the world adopted some drastic preventive measures in order to contain or halt the spread of the deadly and devastating respiratory pneumonia otherwise known as COVID-19. These measures include but not limited to total “Lockdown” which entails social distancing, self-isolation, forced quarantine, among other measures. Based on this reality, several countries provided laws and enacted executive orders that empowered their security agents and operatives to enforce total adherence or compliance to these measures among its citizenry. The citizens have complied with these measures, with its attendant implications on their mental health. This paper was a psychological analysis of the social distancing measures and its mental health outcomes on the citizens, both citizen, non-victims, and the medical and health workers, who are in the frontline of this fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. This was approached by reviewing literature and theories that established a relationship between stressful situations and mental health and wellbeing. Some recommendations were also made on how to ameliorate the mental health outcomes of these preventive measures on vulnerable Nigerians
