THE EFFECT OF EMPLOYEE REMUNERATION ON WORKERS PERFORMANCE IN SOME SELECTED ORGANIZATIONS IN BENIN-CITY, EDO STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract
This study examines the effect of employee remuneration on workers performance in some selected companies in Benin-City, Edo State, Nigeria. In order to have empirical evidence on the research topic; A total of 80 employees of the selected organizations were randomly selected from the numerous population who are workers of the identified transport companies in Benin-City. A well-structured and validated questionnaire was administered through convenience random selection of the employees of the organizations. Two research hypotheses were formulated and tested using non-parametric statistic. The study revealed that monetary remuneration is significantly related to employee performance amongst the selected organizations in Benin-City. Similarly, non-financial rewards tested and confirmed significant to employee performance in the selected organizations in Benin-City, Edo State. Based on these findings, it was recommended that adequate or what may be considered as equitable monetary rewards be provided in order to enhance employee performance, different categories of monetary rewards be introduced by the organization to encourage its workers to perform better and also series of non-monetary rewards to workers be introduced and implemented in order to encourage workers to higher performance which could include commendations as non-financial rewards as this could motivate workers to perform better.
