This is a study on the effect of the independent national electoral commission’s (INEC) voter education on voter positive participation in elections in sokoto state. The active and legitimate participation of all the legible voters in election processes is one of the key measures to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, credibility and acceptance of every democratic system. Scholars and statistics shows that voter turnout in Nigerian presidential elections is declining, due to inefficient, less inclusive voter education. The study argued that, INEC voter education does not encourage positive voter participation in Sokoto State. The objectives of the study were to investigate how INEC voter education contents encourage positive voter participation and the effectiveness of INEC voter education programs to inclusively educate all voters in Sokoto State. Qualitative research methodology was used to conduct the study. The study used semi-structured interview questions to interview 10 participants and the collected data was analysed thematically using categorization and coding after transcription of the raw data. The study found that, INEC voter education encourages voter participation, but the approaches used by INEC are not efficient enough to effectively and inclusively educate all voters in Sokoto State. It was recommended that, INEC should re-strategize the current methodology of voter education to make it sufficiently inclusive and impactful.
