Abstract
The study examines Assessment of Standard Health Information Management in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis”. The sample for the study consisted of 200 respondents which were randomly selected from 150 Health Information Managers, 10 Doctors, 30 Nurses and 10 Pharmacist respectively from University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, General Hospital, Calabar and Federal Neuro- Psychiatric Hospital staff both males and females using purposive sampling technique. Four specific objectives were developed as follows: (i) Examine how hospital type influence standard of health information management in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis (ii) Assess the application of standard of Health Information Services in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis (iii) Find out the attitude of Health Information Managers in the assessment of Health Information Standard in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis. (iv) Determine the experience of Health Information Professionals in the assessment of Standard in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis. The results show that, Hospital type influence the standard of Health Information Management in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis as proved in hypothesis 1. It was affirmed that application of standard of Health Information Services in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis proved in hypothesis 2. It was equally revealed that attitude of Health Information Managers in the assessment of Health Information Standard in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis as proved in hypothesis 3. It was again discovered that experience of Health Information professionals in the assessment of Standard in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis as approved in hypothesis 4. In Summary, Health Information Management department play a vital role in Health care Delivery among others. Given the antecedent of the Assessment of Standard of Health Information Management in Hospitals in Calabar Metropolis”. The researcher therefore recommend among others that Health Information Management professionals should promote the culture and ethics of the profession, following the universal standard of practice, That Government should as a matter of urgency equip and employ more Health Information Managers for the department and ensure the implementation of the policies as regard funding of Statistical data collection to assist health care planning in the State, That Health management provide should appropriate tools for Health Information Management and ensure that only qualify personnel are working in the department.
