Abstract
This paper examined the conceptual definition of unemployment, National Development and dilemma. This paper further discusses types of unemployment, courses of unemployment, impact of unemployment, measures taken by Nigerian government to combat unemployment. The dilemma of unemployment in Nigeria development is unfathomable, as program and policies taken in Nigeria to reduced poverty and unemployment made no positive impact to address the endemic saga. It is regrettably unimaginable but credulous that there is nothing on ground to show despite all the resources both human and material. National development and the problem of unemployment has remained illusory as Nigerian is listed among the undeveloped nation / developing nation. Nigerians are good in policy formulation but implementation of those policies are geared towards self aggrandizement prebendalism and kleptoccry as policies in Nigeria serves as conduit for illicit financial flow out from public fund to private through their cronies. A developed youth is a developed nation. As unemployment is a mark of underdevelopment. The dangers of unemployment to any are unquantifiable as it is the grandfather to many other dangerous crimes in the society. List of developmental programmes, policies and initiatives taken by the government were mentioned in this study. Finally, solutions and recommendation made on how unemployment can be reduced to the barest minimum
