Abstract

This study examined the impact of entrepreneurship development on self sustenance, unemployment and poverty alleviation in Kwara State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of this study, one hundred (100) questionnaires were administered on entrepreneurs who were selected from the major cities in the State with sixty (60) questionnaires correctly completed, returned and useful for the analysis. Using the Chi-square test statistical technique, it was revealed that there is a significant relationship between entrepreneurship development and self-sustenance. The study further affirms that entrepreneurship development assisted significantly in employment generation, alleviation of poverty, and in enhancing self-sustenance. It is recommended that state government should create a conducive atmosphere for adequate infrastructures that will allow investment to thrive and Academic institutions are also advised to lay much emphasis on teaching entrepreneurial course with establishment of entrepreneurship development centres in all tertiary institutions operating in Kwara State, Nigeria
