Abstract

Decision-making is of importance in organisations. Effective decision-making assists the religious
organisation through resource allocation, contribution towards the achievement of goals, and as well as build trust
with their members. To develop information systems that provide church leaders with up-to-date and consolidated
information, it is imperative to understand the informational needs and information system elements that best serve
church leaders. The research seeks to understand the information needs of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church
leaders to develop an e-dashboard that best serves the church communities and their leaders. The SDA was chosen
because it has adopted the use of information and communication technologies in all the facets of its activities. In this
research, a qualitative approach was adopted. Twelve church leaders were consulted using semi-structured
interviews, and data were analysed using Atlas-ti version 8. It was found that church leaders were mostly interested in
finance, membership, visitors, and missionary information. There was a lack of proper data integration from various
departments and a lack of consolidated reports from the church departments making it difficult for church leaders to
make informed decisions in this dynamic environment. The study proposed an e-dashboard for improved information
retrieval on a single screen.
