Abstract

The study on the assessment of Millennium Development Goals on Rural Development in Ivo local Government Area of Ebonyi State was undertaken with a view to address the problems of poverty, poor health and education standard, lack of basic amenities among other things in Ebonyi State. The study which employed survey design was objectively meant to examine the extent to which MDGs were implemented in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State; determine the effects of MDGs on the human capital development of Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State among others. Two hundred and fifty persons selected from Ivo local government area were studied using multi stage sampling. The anchorage theoretical perspective was the Power Elite theory propounded by Vilfredo Pareto (1848-1923) and supported by Gaetano Mosca (1858-1923). The three hypotheses of the study were analyzed using Pearson correlation. After the analysis of data, findings revealed that despite the huge financial resources ploughed into the Millennium Development Goals in various sectors there has been no remarkable evidence of development in the rural areas of Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The study therefore recommended that Nigeria and indeed Ebonyi State should ensure that development is achieved in the rural areas of Ivo Local Government Area of the state using the current goals.
