Abstract
The emergence of regional security networks in Nigeria has generated intense debate among policy makers and concerned scholars, as to the main reason for their existence. While some contend that it has political underpinning, others insist that it’s a deliberate attempt to usurp the authority of Nigeria Police Force. Still some attribute it to ethnic politics. With the securitization theory as it framework for analysis and empirical data generated from the secondary source as well as qualitative approach to data collection and analysis this study revealed that the rise of regional security networks in Nigeria has no hidden agenda. As they are reaction to imminent and present danger, that requires unconventional brand of security to counteract the threat to Nigerian citizens. It also recommends that community policing as well as the regional police system must be encourage, and as a matter of urgency be enshrined in the Nigeria constitution as it will assuage the impact and restore the citizens confidence in the Nigeria project.
