Abstract
This study examined assessment of psychological empowerment impact on organizational citizenship behaviour of workers of private universities. Two hundred and eight (208) workers of private institutions comprising females (110) and males (98) participated in the study. Participants’ age ranged from 20 years to 65 years with a mean age of 31.37 years (SD = 8.65). The participants were drawn from four private institutions within Enugu metropolis and they include; Peaceland College Enugu, Coal City University, Godfrey Okoye University and Caritas University, Enugu, using two stage sampling technique (Simple random; balotting & availability). Organizational Citizenship Behaviour Scale (Onyishi 2007) and Psychological Empowerment Scale Spreitzer (1995) were adopted for use in this study. Findings indicate that psychological empowerment was a significant positive predictor of worker’s organizational citizenship behavior (β = .43, p < .001). This finding implies that management of private institutions should boost employees sense of autonomy which in turn influences workers behaviour, attitudes and interactions in order to improve the quality of institutional services.
